In my experience its always best to listen to your family, they see things from a different angle then you do. Since they are outside the situation, they are always good to rely on. You may not understand just yet, but in the end you'll realize they were right all along.

how old are you?
May-be that's a factor
he might be scared of becoming paw-paw
