And is this a major reason for war as a foriegn policy, or just a side effect?

This question pertains to the USA, in particular, but I guess could be answered generally as well.

I agree that scaring someone does not make them respect you, it has to be earned. Flexing our military muscles only makes us like we're the boss (kinda like being in a gang or mafia).

It's like respecting your spouse more every time they beat the crap out of you.

War is just the aftermath of all sides not agreeing on a solution. Instead of working out the problems, it's just easier to kill off the opposing side.

My opinion, war is stupid & we need our troops at home.

I am glad you are asking questions like this...

History shows that the strong survive. When you are the largest Country with power to back you up come a larger responsibility.

War was because Countries wanted more land, now we want oil, etc...

You can not scare someone into respecting you, you have to treat them how you would like to be treated...and then only then you earn others respect...

America has turn so Corporate, and are driven by Large companies, and money...

Take some Economic classes to learn...

I don;t think it is a scare tactic, but a definate flex of muscles....The global situation is the reason for war

Well, after 30 plus years, invading Iraq scared Libya so much they gave up their nuclear program.

... i think iraq makes a statement to the rest of the world that if they dont obey the US that this is what will happen to you ... i think its a desired side effect but not the actual reason behind the foreign policy ...

i dont think it does. i think other countries are laying low and letting america have her few seconds of power. would you resepct someone if they came into your house and told you how to run every aspect of your life?
