I got her at this animal rescue shelter they were nuts i guess you can say because she was spayed when she was only 6 weeks of age. We have been best friends ever since. What do you think about my dog??? What can you tell me about your's???

It's so good to hear it when someone rescues a pet - Most of what we hear on YA is "how do I find a mate for my dog", adding to the population of unwanted dogs.

I have 2 boys - a 12 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab named Hershey (Registered name Sir Kisselot) and a 3 1/2 year old Aussie named Jack (For Jack Daniels) - They're my pride and joy and I dread the day that I loose the older one : (

Congratulations on Saddie - Cherish her!

I have two rescued dogs. One (the older dog) neutered at the age of one year, and the younger at two and a half. Although he is two years older he is more puppy like, playful and dependent. I attribute this to the younger age at neutering.
The younger dog is more of a handful, having already developed his more mature nature. He always wants to fight other dogs and isn't very playful.

I agree that six weeks is too young, but the shelter is only trying to guarantee this problem will not grow to disproportionate numbers. I heard that the state of Delaware alone killed close to 10,000 stray dogs and cats last year. The shelters are full and newly found dogs and cats are being sent to the killsites daily.

You have a great dog, that will have puppylike characteristics for many years to come. She survived the procedure, and will be your companion for many more healthy years because of it.

Congratulations, my respect and the best of wishes go out to you and Saddie.

I rescued my Sadie from a rescue shelter. She was 12 weeks old and supposed to be a Coon Hound, German Sheperd Mix....
mmmmm... she is now 3 1/2 years old and is way too short to have come from those breeds only..... I believe she is Coonhound with whatever Beagle? was sauntering down the street that week.

She just had bladder stone surgery this past Tues....doing fine!
She is also blind in one eye but sure doesn't hurt her in any way.

Thank you for rescueing from the shelter ! WAY TO GO!

Your dog is lucky that you found her!

Yes, I think 6 weeks old is way to young for a dog to be spayed. The shelters will usually make you sign a contract and make you pay a deposit, to make sure you will get the dog fixed when they are old enough.

Your dog sounds cute and I'm glad that you adopted from the shelter. Have fun with her.

Your doggie sounds beautiful! I have a 5 year old (She will be 6 years old January 27) Beagle/Terrier mix. She is Black and White. She weighs between 28-33 pounds. Her name is Oreo. Her favorite hobby is EATING. She LOVES to eat. After that she enjoys sleepy and playing with the hundreds of toys that I've bought her for past birthdays, Ilovemydog days, Christmases, etc. She is very spoiled, just like a child. She enjoyes listening to me play the piano. She likes sitting outside on the porch when the wind is blowing. She hates the rain, the snow, and baths. She doesn't like riding in cars either, and despises going to the Vet. She has a beautiful doggie bed, but she prefer the couch or my bed anyday. She has a personality, and oftentimes people forget that she is a lil doggie. She's my baby, and I love my Oreo!!!!

I understand why shelters spay and neuter that early, but it isn't safe, they are too young and their organs are too weak to undergo anesthesia. I work at a vet's office and we see that a lot with rescue pets. It is best to spay and neuter between 4 and 6 months old. In fact my clinic runs pre anesthesia bloodwork which tells us if the pet is healthy enough to be sedated. We also use human grade anesthesia.
I have a standard poodle and a toy poodle, I love them to death. They are so smart and they don't shed, the hair is a lot of upkeep though, but I used to be a groomer and my sister is currently a groomer for petsmart, so we have great tools to maintain them.

Awww what a cute mix! 6 Weeks is early, but there is no real "too early" date to fix a dog....however it should have been done later.

I have a husky/wolf mix pup (3 mos) named Zandar. We love him to bits...he's super smart, social and loving...sometime a little too smart! haha Training him has been a breeze (cause he's a smart breed I think)...have a great time with ur pup...take lots and lots of pics!!!
