You've decided to quit. So, how do you start? Or, if you've quit successfully before but slipped back, how can you quit for good this time?

Have you tried auricular therapy? It's a form of accupuncture where they just put an electrode on each ear for a few seconds. It's worked really well for some people, leaving them with no desire to smoke. Look in the phonebook or online and you can probably find a place that does it. They make you sign an agreement that if you do have the urge to smoke you will come in and have another treatment (free) before you light up a cigarette. If you are really motivated, this should work and it doesn't have any side effects. I took the new medication to help you quit and it made me so nervous I felt like I was having a breakdown or something.

When I quit, the most important thing I did was to set a date in advance. I used Zyban, and I'm sure that helped...But I know that most of it was the fact that I had prepared myself, and got myself ready for it.

I also recommend that you make some plans for what to do when you're not smoking. I had a hard time with "what to do with these extra ten minutes". As a smoker, I'd just go have a cigarette. As a non-smoker, I started snacking, which is definitely not the way to go! Find a hobby that you can pick up for a few minutes of time, and easily walk away from. Also, think about what you're gonna do when you get in the car, and after you eat...maybe you want to have toothpicks on hand, for example.

Prepare yourself...that's my top tip.

Did I say good luck?!?!

How bad do you want to quit? If you want to quit, then quit, if you don't you will fall back in smoking. I would change the smoking habit with another habit. Maybe something you don't like to do, or something you enjoy doing, and everytime you want to smoke, go do one of those 3 things for 5-10 minutes, until the erg goes away. A if you think you might want a cig, read a book or write in a journal of what you are feeling while trying not to wat a cig. Good Luck.

I'll tell you how I stopped smoking. It is the most effective method I know of.

I stopped going places where people smoked, and avoided the vicinity of all smokers. I found when I wasn't around other smokers the obsession to smoke left me completely. That's it. It works!

My surgeon didn't tell me to quit smoking when I was scheduling the procedure to have part of my lung removed. He wanted to have me come back in a couple of years and have more surgery. That opened my eyes, and I went cold turkey!! First week is toughest, but after that your body has gotten rid of the nicotine, and you are no longer physically hooked ----- mentally is the kicker. Good luck.

educate yourself as much as possible about dangers of smoking

do daily exercise

drink water

chew nicotine gum

determine how much money you will save in a year by not purchasing tobacco

if you are going to snack to compensate, make it fruits (grapes, strawberries, cherries, etc) or nuts.

go for a walk during those traditional smoking times (after meal, etc).

try to stay away from smoking situations

relax and enjoy life
