Between your Junior and Senior year...having recruited in Chicago, the answer is yes. Your automatically considered a senior following completion of your junior year.It is NOT for the active component though. It is reserved for both the Reserves and National Guard. It does obligate you to the respective component.

Just for your information, the Army is the only branch that does this.. The reason they do this is to ensure they have you all locked up and have you recruited. The other branches cannot touch you as a junior in HS. We used to complain about this all the time but they still get away with doing it. Do you really know what you want to do your junior year. Be sure to check out the Air Force if you are qualified!!

Yes, they do allow this, and many people do. The only exception is the USMC. They would, but generally, the summer break is not long enough to allow a person to complete Marine Corps bootcamp.

And no, you do not have to be 18. You must be 17 with parental permission.

My friend joined the Army National Guard and went to basic the summer before our senior year. My sister wanted to join too and they told her that she could go, but if she were to get hurt, they would send her home because she'd have to finish high school.

NO. Once you're out of basic training you are IN. You get your other training and are sent to your first duty station. You have to be a HS grad (normally) to join anyway. Don't believe me? Ask a recruiter. This MIGHT be true for the USANG or reserves, but I don't know about them.
