My fiance is deploying to Iraq in March, and I would like to make this Valentines special. Any sentimental gift ideas he could take with him to Iraq?

Last Valentine's Day, I went to Border's books and bought my fiance at the time (now husband) a book called "ALL ABOUT US"... it was a book that you BOTH fill out the pages. It makes you think about all sorts of things as a couple. There are about 120 pages. You each get to answer EVERY question (there are blanks that go for him or her - next to each one)... about your lives together.

I would suggest you get the book, YOU secretly fill it out, then give it to him as a gift. While in Iraq, if he wants he can fill in his answers. When he returns - you both have a wonderful keepsake.

My husband and I, still read the book whenever we are wanting to "reminisce." Also, after a disagreement - it is a good reminder of why you love each other, too!

Good luck with the deployment - I know it is hard to be apart, but know that he is doing what he believes is right and fighting for our freedom.

Take the role as fiance/wife, of an American Soldier, as a privilege not a burden!!!!

well, a girl i know gave me this idea, and so i'll pass it on to you. she got cards for all the major holidays for like the next year, and sealed them, writing "do not open until ...." on the outside. it's hard to time things when mailing to Iraq. that way, he always had something sweet & happy to read on the holidays or special days, even if there was no mail.

in addition... you could make a scrapbook & write little stories about your happy times together. you could go to like.. walmart and buy self-sealing lamination paper, and take your favorite pic and laminate it & give it to him, so he can keep it in his pocket when he's out and it wont get ruined (i did this for mine & he loves it, esp when he's in the field). you could also do the pillowcase thing, where you wash your hair everynight for a week & go to sleep with it wet & then give him the pillowcase to take with him.

those are just a couple ideas - good luck!

Pictures, yes, that's a great idea, maybe put a few of your favorites in nice frames, and have a scrapbook or photo album for the rest. A nice thing to send to him while he's deployed is a night shirt that you've worn for a few nights in a row, so it smells like you.

I made my husband a mixed CD one year when he was deployed. For the cover I took lots of pictures of us that I shrunk down and made kind of a checkerboard pattern of a bunch of pictures on the front. Then maybe write a note about why you chose each song.

Also, you may want to make several copies of the CD for him, as the sand tends to ruin CDs pretty quickly. Another version of this (although a little more difficult) is to make a DVD of either yourself or the two of you to send with him. Include friends, family, favorite places to hang out, etc if you want.

I also made him a little book of things that remind me of him once. Stories, poems, song lyrics, quotes, sayings, that kind of thing. I wrote them in a nice leather-bound journal as I thought of them then sent it to him for some holiday (probably Valentine's Day).

A photo album of the two of you might also be nice. Make it something small that will fit in his cargo pockets so he can take it with him everywhere he goes.

A calendar with important dates to the two of you (and of course a countdown to when he comes home). Write in birthdays, anniversaries, holidays (because if he's anything like my husband he won't remember them otherwise!) You could make one of those that you put your own pictures in, and kind of combine it with the photo album idea. You could also write in little notes to him at different points, little sweet surprises for him to find throughout the year.

Give him a heartshaped keychain with your name engraved on it, and tell him that he'll be taking your heart with him.
