I've had braces for almost 2 years now, and a while ago my gums got puffy, I floss, I brush, I do everything to help the puffiness go down, but nothing seems to work. When I went for a cleaning she said the puffiness should go down once I get my braces off.

Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, did the puffiness go down after you got your braces off?

Thanks in advance!!! =D

Also, it's just on the top where my gums are the most puffy, the bottom are pretty good, just a bit puffy.

Forgot to ask, if the puffiness did go away after you got your braces off, how long did it take to go down?
And, if it didn't go down after you got your braces off, how do you make it go down?
I know that with some people with braces and their gums get like REALLY puffy after they come off the dentist will like cut the puffy gums away, but I don't want that!! I don't think I even need that.

I just got a adjustment on my braces and he says to come back in 4 weeks to make sure every thing's good, and if everything looks good then I go back in another 4 weeks to get them off. So in 8 weeks they will probably be coming off!! =D

I ask the question, because I was worried about my gums, and plus the puffy gums don't look the greatest, to me I think it looks gross. And I want to be able to smile and look good with out my braces.
So glad to know that in a few days or months my gums will or should be back to normal ^_^

Thanks for the advice, keep it coming!! =D

I do brush my gums, every time I brush which is 3 times a day, I also have a special brush to "massage" my gums and brush them too, and I do it gently as well.

Really good question. I just got my braces off a week ago and I had them on for a year. I had puffy gums too. But the puffiness went away 2-3 days after I got the braces off.
Don't worry about it.
I hope this helps.

I see lots of patients every week who have braces and "puffy" gums. The reason for their puffy gums is almost always gingivitis. People wearing braces may not realize that they need to keep their teeth TWICE as clean as people without braces. Very often people brush their teeth either at the braces or between the braces and the biting surfaces of the teeth. This is ok to do, but then they don't realize that they need to make another pass with the toothbrush, pushing the bristles of the brush gently against the gums as well. If you make sure that you are pressing the toothbrush GENTLY against the gums while you brush, I'll bet your gums will not be puffy for more than 2 more weeks. Try it, and good luck! Don't stop doing it if they bleed a bit either.... that's the worst thing you can do!

Yeah initially you should floss each day which will be a reason. 2d in case your gums damage basically ask and orthodonsist in case you imagine it really is brought about through your braces. you should attempt this previously issues worsen
