Hello,
This one is so easy and works all the time for me. (If lots of garlic) Put on a plate in the micorwave for one minute.
Then when it comes out it will be warm and the skin peels off so much easier and fast.
I do this all the time :)

If I have a number of cloves to peel and I want them to stay whole, I'll usually use my "garlic peeler" tube (which is just a soft rubbery plastic... put in the cloves, roll hard on the counter, then dump out the peeled cloves and separated skins)... this is like the rubbery can lid remover way mentioned above, but a little more specialized.
If I don't have many to peel, generally I just whack 'em like most people have mentioned, BUT since I usually don't want my garlic to be too "hot" in the food, I'll try not to crush the clove too much in the process... just enough to split the skin. (Whole garlic, or even slices of garlic, are fairly sweet and mild, but the more they're crushed, the spicier and "hotter" they'll become.)

lay the individual clove in a rubber jar lid opener. fold it in half and roll the clove several times.
Done.
I love that everyone is telling you to smash the garlic. What happens if you wanted to slice it after you peel it? Pretty hard to do anything with smashed garlic except chop it.

Cut a piece of old bicycle inner tube about 6 inches long, clean it with a bottle brush and dish soap, and keep it. Put the garlic cloves inside, roll it around on the counter top with the flat of your hand, dump it out, sort the skins and discard them.

To peel the cloves, arrange them on the cutting board and whack or press them firmly with a heavy object, like the flat side of a chef's knife, a kitchen mallet, or small pan. You will be able to remove the peel easily, probably in one piece.

Use a large chef's knife and using the flat of it, whack the clove. It splits out, the peel practically falls off.

get the cloves loose and then put a knife sideways. Smack the garlic against a table under the knife. It will peel the cloves.

1. separate the cloves
2. Whack with a large flat knife on a cutting board
3. That will split the peel for you - making it very easy!
