.it is the only way that I can "see" what my emotions look like at that particular time.... I paint for the sake of applying paint not for any specific image so for me it is a dance with color, form, light, and texture as my partners, thus it becomes a celebration of my emotions come-t- life with those elements creating what the viewer sees.... If it is a valid work then the viewer is invited into the dance on whatever level they are ready for and can commit to. Some turn away, some dance a little and some buy the end result to take their new dance partner home to continue to and enjoy it as often as they wish and to get their friends to possibly dance with it also.... should they dare.

For the process mostly. There is something soothing about refining a stroke, or conveying a texture. If you meant "how do I view others' painting," it depends on the artist, obviously. For accuracy and impeccable observation, Titian, Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, etc. For movement, Duchamp. For emotion, any of the Impressionists, but my favorites are Monet, Manet, Renoir. The most surprising development has been the reversal of my opinion of Jasper Johns and Lichtenstein. Perhaps I just learned to finally understand them.

Painting is my life. I paint everyday. I've been doing it since I was 5 and never stopped.

I like painting because I can put on canvas something that has never been seen before (except in my mind) and I can bring it to life.
