I think it depends upon your definition of "famous."
New York is certainly known for it's organized crime figures to include Gotti, more well known as a facilitator of "Trigger" men than anything else, in my opinion.
Then there are the Morello and Morano crime families along with the Masseria, Lucchese and Genovese families.
Tough question of which each family in of it's own had their strengths and weaknesses.

If based purely on fame, I would go with Gotti. But, then names mentioned by KC V are also very well known.
