a few years ago i had a root canal. i should say a partial root canal because the pain was gone but the dentist said i had to go back to for him to finish it. well, i never went back and about 2 years ago the tooth just fell out. now, my gum is swollen, my face is swollen, and my cheek hurts. i know it's from this broken off back tooth. i can't go to the dentist to have it fixed because i don't have insurance and i'm struggling financially right now. what will happen if i let this problem go on?

You need antibiotics and then whatever remains of that tooth needs to be removed regardless of whether you have insurance or not, set up a payment plan. While modern medicine has eliminated this problem if untreated it can develop into something more serious. Meantime in 1924 my grandmother died of an abscessed (infected) tooth. Good luck.

That tooth sounds infected. In a root canal, they clean out the root and then temporarily pack the now-empty space in the tooth, and in the second visit, they finish the root canal by checking to make sure everything is OK and then putting in a kind of filling so that the empty spot doesn't get infected.

There is no pain equal to an abscessed tooth (I know from experience), and I believe you can end up with a nasty systemic infection, including one involving the heart (endocarditis). You need to find some way to get this treated. Hardly anyone has dental insurance that makes much of a dent in the cost of a root canal, so you will need to figure out how to finance this -- do you have family who could loan you the money?

By the way, a cheap alternative to a root canal is to simply have the tooth pulled. You've probably already ruined the tooth beyond repair anyway, so your problem could probably be solved by taking antibiotics and pulling the tooth (which is a whole lot cheaper than treatment to save the tooth).

please, please find someone to loan you money to go see a dentist.i was on here only 2 months ago w/ the same problem kind of.this is VERY serious and I am not kidding.I urge you to find a dentist that can put you on payment plans or a dental school that will pull it for fairly inexpensive.i had the exact same symptoms as you and when i went in to get it pulled I had my dentist scared, that's how serious It was.please do something about this ASAP.you can land in the ER if you let this go much further.if your gum is swollen it means that the infection is in your tooth and may already be in your bloodstream, this is very dangerous!!!!!!please go see someone NOW.I do not want to scare you but you can die from an infected tooth. Most dentist's should be willing to help you out financially, if you have to wait longer then a week to have it pulled and your dentist knows it an infected, that's malpractice, find another dentist. And DO NOT take sherlyns advice, peroxide is very dangerous and does not belong in the mouth, swallowed or not!!!!

My daughter-in-law had an abscessed tooth one time (sounds like you might have one, too) and had no insurance...so she rinsed her mouth 6 times a day with peroxide(don't swallow any of it,spit it out) and in a couple of days the swelling and pain went away...it was enough to get her by until she saved up the money to go to the Dr.

you have an infection and need some antibiotics or the poison could get in your blood stream and travel to your heart....which can cause you to have endocarditis or death...if you are not able to afford it try finding a free dental clinic or even see if anyone you know might have some that you can have...you need the antibitoics!

I do not think that wisdom teeth would effect a sore throat, but the nerves from those wisdom teeth are pretty nasty. I would go to the dentist immediately. Don't wait for home made meds. They do not work well.
