I read all the answers. If someone took their time and went through a thought process to write it, I can take a few moments to read it. I might get impatient with the cut and paste people I've seen. Or people in the politics section who blabber off meaningless rhetoric. But it isn't fair to discount an answer just because you are too impatient to read it, or generalize- saying nobody likes to read long answers. Some people do.
(Oh, sorry I just wrote a book here.)

Perhaps you might take control of the situation by phrasing your questions in such a way that "essay" answers are nearly impossible. The real problem I find with long answers is not so much those that are thoughtful, but rather those that have chosen to illegally cut and paste long passages from copyrighted materials. You might want to report those when you get them.

Yahoo Answers is for a diverse population. You'd have to get Yahoo to agree to restrict the answer to 300 characters or less (as they do when submitting comments to Best Answers.)

I like complete answers and sometimes that means the answer is long.

I don't care for answers that say nothing no matter how short or long they are.

When people write long answers, they are not trying to upset you, they are just trying to be thorough and give you the best information/answer possible.

If you are looking for short answers to your own questions, then I suggest adding a line that says "Shorter answers preferred"

But really, some people do like to read long answers, if they are actually informative.

Hope this wasn't too long for you....

Dont read them, just pass them over. or give them a thumbs down. It's a lot simpler than trying to get them to stop.

Just ignore the long ones. They are only trying to be helpful, though.

You may type:

"brevity preferred"

"brief answer will have best chance for 10 points"
