It depends on the situation and the person using the OC spray. I personally choose streams.

Streams will hit a target from a farther distance and is less subject to wind conditions. Fog on the other hand will for sure hit the spot if you are up close, but yet it does not do well from a distance, and has a higher chance of getting you or others around contaminated.

Both have problems when used in close encounters thus the reason you find pepper sprays used less often by individual officers in the street.

However, fogs have a propensity to dissipate more than the streams therefore hitting your intended target is more likely to happen than it would with a fog!

The pepper spray is stronger and does a better job at stopping an attack, the fog is probably easier to hit the target. I go with the spray!

I live where the wind blows a lot. When I teach self defense classes I often get asked about this. My preference is foam. The wind doesn't affect it nearly as much as it does either fog or stream and once it gets on the assailant it tends to stick to them better. Check out this link for an example of a foam product.

Well a stream is better if you have somebody attacking you, but if you are trying to clear a room, fog is the best defense. The best fog is OC/CS gas fog spray.

The fog can present a lot of problems, especially on a windy day.
It doesn't help the situation if you end up blinding yourself.

The stream gives you a lot more control over the targeted area.

Stream is great, but you may miss the targeted spot. I'd go with the fog because you can cover a wider area. If aiming for the eye, you will also cover nose and mouth area.

Stream, simply because the 'fog' could easily get blown back on YOU.

The stream is the best. Be carefull that you do not inhale the spray. You cough for a long time, and it burns the lungs.
