I have a 8-9 wk old JRT (jack rusell) she has a few fleas on her from being outside and our lovely south weather being so warm so far. I know they have to be at least 6 months to use shampoos on them for fleas but is there anything else other than a puppy flea collar i can do?

Your dog is still too young to use anti-flea preparations or devices. Buy a flea comb and use it often and thoroughly, as much as 2-3 times a day. Deposit the fleas caught into a handily placed container of soapy solution. (This will drown the fleas.) Eventually there will be no fleas.

If your living area is not free of fleas, then fumigate it and repeat the fumigation after 10 days. That is when the flea eggs in carpets etcetera hatch. If yo are not sure if your living area has fleas or not, and you puppy has fleas then let me assure you IT HAS!!

Ask you veterinary surgeon to advise you when the dog is old enough to use a product you apply to the dog's skin which sterilises the fleas. Use one of these products as indicated by the manufacturer and you should never have the problem again.

Do not use a flea collar. Go to your vet and get a mild flea product especially made for pups and kittens. Do not trust products from pet stores or discount stores. Then while you are there pickup a once a month topical for puppies that you can apply 3 days after the bath.

Do NOT use ANY OTC flea products including collars & shampoos. They are worthless and can cause serious problems..skin burns, neurological issues, seizures & death.

Go to the vet and get a safe flea product such as Frontline or Advantage (both can be used on puppies as young as 8 weeks).

At 2 days previous, each and all of the vet's going to furnish you is slightly flea comb. you could desire to bathe the bedding and area very sturdy to get rid of the fleas. The puppy shops have those products referred to as deflea so you might use on very youthful and nursing puppies. With that youthful, carry on with instructions intently. It sucks as a flea preventative, yet for the very youthful, it works on fleas you have gotten the product on. Oh yeah, do not positioned toddler oil on them! you will finally end up with greasy, flea ridden puppies.

First of all raspberry to you on your WARM weather : # it's cold here in IL. I would ask the vet if it is really bad,Or if you want to do it at home what you could do is dilute the shampoo half water and of course half shampoo in a bottle then use it that way so the little pooch is not suffering from the darn fleas biting .Just make sure that you do NOT get the shampoo into the eyes of course, and use cotton balls in her ears the fleas my go for her head if she has them really bad. Good luck hope this helps

Use advantage or frontline, do not put sevendust, flea collars or flea dips on your puppy. She has to be at least 12 weeks old to use those kinds of products, at this age they could kill her! In fact advantage can be used on puppies as young as 7 weeks old. Its really mild but does the trick!

Use a flea comb on her. The other thing is to ask your vet for either a topical flea treatment or the combination heartworm/flea pill (like Sentinel). Stay away from the drug store stuff, it's not good for your dog or you. Good luck!

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

DO NOT USE FLEA MEDS on a baby - Dawn dishwashing detergent will kill the fleas if you bathe her in it. Even though its warm in the South - make sure you bather her inside in warm water and dry her thoroughly. It works great and its safe for babies.

I raise Peek-a-Poo's and to live in the south..I have from time to time had to give my babies a bath due to fleas...You can use Dawn dish washing detergent....I just strongly recommend keeping the puppy at this age warm...I have been told by my vet that frontline etc..is not good for young puppies..
