Tattoos are fine. But ... getting a boyfriends name is not the wisest. What if you break up? Will you get it removed or live with it once you get married? Getting a symbol to remember the time is fine, but please stay away from names. For women the lower back is one of the least painful because it's mostly fat and doesn't really stretch. Go to an artist and ask for designing help so that if you do break up you wont be stuck with a name that is no longer part of your life. They can help more than anyone on here.

Remember a tattoo is for life! Johnny Depp had to have painful laser removal to change Winona forever to Wino forever! But if you're sure.. something that's meaningful to ye,, it's such a personal choice and someting that you won't be tired of in 5 years. It's less painful on a fleshy part.. don't go near any boney areas.. I like the idea of two small hummingbirds. But still not brave enough to do it!

One of the best presents my wife ever gave me was some home-made cut-out sugar cookies that she decorated and frosted by hand. This didn't cost much and showed me how much she cares. Put these together with a T-shirt of his favorite sports team. You should be able to do the cookies for less than $7-$8 and the T-shirt for around $15-$20. Merry Christmas!

Maybe something that is significant to you both would be nice but I do not recommend getting each other's name if I were you. I did it! I have his name on my lower stomach with a butterfly sitting on it and he has my name (HUGE) in old english letters on the top of his back. I am still with him but now that we are a little older . . . it doesn't mean anything. . I really wish I wouldn't have gotten it. . .but you do what you wish. . .I am only giving my opinion. .
Why don't you go and get individual tattoos that are special to the both of you and just make that actual event sacred. . .ya know?

I know this is maybe not what you want to hear, but you need to be practical.
So you need to get something ´that you can keep in the event that you do split.
I wouldn't say dont do it, cuz if you are thinking of marrying the guy you are obviulsy never going to forget about him, so if you do get tats make it something that will remind you of the nice times.
Or you could go for like a celtic design you both like, and you could get a smaller more feminine version.
or you could go for like a continuing thing, you know like... hmmm... I am thinking yin and yang but that would be crap, like an acorn and a squirrel. no wait thats still a bit crap... hmmm...he could get a star, you could get a sun... you know, you dont get day without night?
that sort of thing!!

Most painless is near your hip on your belly and they look great as i have one there and every one compliments me on it but as for the whole togetherness thing i would not suggest it as marriages break tattoos dont but getting matching tattoos that you both like or maybe tattoos that link in with each other like a heart and a key sort of thing maybe ok ? up to you the final decision tho

Go to a tattoo shop. The Artist will have pictures, and books for you to look through to get a general idea, and then they can customize them just for you. And, on the shoulder is one of the less painful sites, that's why so many folks get them there.

my experience with tatoos is that if you have to try hard to think of an idea...you shouldn't get one yet! it should be easy, and personal, and not something you need advice on. plus...it's bad luck to get a tatoo with a boyfriend! everyone knows that means you will break up!!! wait until you are married, otherwise all that tatoo will do is give your next boyfriend a reason harrass you and make you feel guilty! if it's "real" and you know it will last...what is the hurry? do it later when you have a clear vision of a tatoo that is right for both of you

its a bad idea to get tattooes with someone else. especially a boyfriend. you never know what might happen between the two of you, and you dont want to have something permanent there to remind you.
