People say that because many years ago, before the popularity of Japanese cars, parts really were hard to find. Later, as the quality and reliability of the cars improved and surpassed American cars, the "buy American" crowd still used the same excuse to justify why they bought a crappy Ford or Chevy, even though the reality has since changed. I've also heard that it's easier to fix American cars, as if though that's a good excuse to buy American cars. What fails to occur to these people is that a car must first break alot to find out if it really is easier to fix. I am an American and I am loyal to my country. I am not loyal to American car companies who repeatedly put out crap product just to get my money. I return the loyalty they show Americans. American cars consistently lose out to Japanese cars every year. JD Power and Associates, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc. all consistently rank Japanese cars on the top of their lists. On JD Power and Associates, Toyota has more awards than any FOUR American car companies, as well as becoming the #1 car seller in the world. Do those idiots think American companies are too stupid to know to stock their shelves with Japanese parts???

All four cyl camrys are made in the US , and MOST 6 cyl are made here too. With the exception of SOME 6 cyl xle models. 75% ov v6 xle models are made here too. You can tell where yours has been built by loking at the first digit of the vin #. If the 1st letter is a "J", then it was built in Japan, all others are built here.
As for the second part of your question, there are more parts available for imports than domestics, however with the reliability of Japanese cars, you will have less of a need for replacement parts.

Good question. Here's a funny and true story:About 2 years ago I pulled into the parking lot of the shop where I work as the radiator hose on my 72 Datsun 240Z blew. Not 3 minutes later my boss pulled up in his 2000 Ford F250 and his upper radiator hose was also leaking(albeit slower). The local auto supply store had an exact fit hose in stock for my 30 year old Japanese car and delivered it within the hour.My boss had to wait 2 days until the Ford dealer had the hose shipped in from Dallas.btw: if a Japanese car VIN starts with J then it's from Japan,if the VIN starts with 1 or 4 then it was built in the US.

Yes, most of the new Camrys are made in the US. However some of the 07 models were imported from Japan such as the XLE V6 with navigation and smart key. Also the first couple hundred of the Camry hybrids were also made in Japan.

To find out if your Camry was made in the United States, all you need to do is check the first character of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Lots of other information is encoded into your VIN number.
If it is a 1 of a 4, it was built in the United States.
If it is a J, it was built in Japan
Many of the parts for these cars come from Japan. They don't have as many after market companies making replacement parts as the domestic models have. This makes replacement parts harder to find and more expensive.
Something that buyers of Japanese makes don't consider when they are buying their car.

the Camry is mostly made in the u.s however there is a small portion of Camry's made in japan to help keep up with production and demand in the u.s., anyone that tells you that parts are hard to get is an idiot, Toyota parts as well as Honda parts are as easy to get as any other popular manufacture, if the car is older you might have to search a little but it is not impossible to find parts. i know because i sell them. the cars ,new one that is.

Even so-called American cars (Chevy, Ford, Dodge) contain foreign parts... who's to know which model is made where and what parts of it are not made in the US ??? I have owned 5 Toyotas in the past 25 years, and I have never experienced a delay in getting parts for any of them... I really think that parts availability has been a priority for Japanese automakers here in the states, as well as reliability improvements... a reliable car needs fewer repairs... hence needing fewer replacement parts !
