If you are on the west side, Kaanapalli area, the Hula Grill is a great place to go as it is on the ocean at Whalers Village. Their food is very good. They also have live music, If you really want a gourmet dinner, go to Sansei rest. in Kapalua. their food is incredible, but no view.Five days in Maui go very fast, and if you are driving all over, it will not seem much like a vacation. If the weather is good as it is most of the time, go to the beach, relax, watch the whales, snorkel, and enjoy Maui. The trip to Hana is a long one but very beautiful, but plan on all day, back and forth. If you want to stay in Hana, one night, the Hana Hotel is awesome. It is very pricey but it is well worth it.Also, you can go whale watching, on the boats, go deep sea fishing, helicopter rides great golf, hiking ,shopping,or go to one of the other Islands like Lanai, or Molokai. There is so much to do here. You can rent, mopeds, kayaks, snorkel gear diving gear, for scuba, Harley's, for a nice motorcycle ride, and almost anything you want to do is available. They have great tours you can go on also. Aloha, and enjoy.

Nick's Fishmarket at the Fairmont Kea Lani is very romantic, but very expensive. Otherwise, the Waterfront in Maalaea. Or Roys (there are 2 on Maui) and Leilani's at Whaler's Village are also good bets.
Five days is plenty to see almost everything. Some must dos: whale watch/snorkel tour to Molokini, helicopter tours are awesome (so I've heard); and my husband loves the drive to Hana.
Hope that helps.

We honeymooned there, and one of our favorite places was Yorman's by the see. It in (or near, can't remember) Kihei, not too well known, so it's kind of secluded. If you go at the right time, you can grab one of the tables by the ocean. They often play live jazz.
You may also want to look into any of the restaurants at any of the resorts in Waliea. They're all very nice, and the scenery is amazing!
If you're the outdoor-sy type, there's plenty of water activities, and lots of places to just walk and sight-see. You should also try and catch the sunrise on Haleakala, quite amazing.
Good luck!

My favorite place in Kahului, Maui is Saigon Cafe. The owner is beautiful, and she make an excellent Naoki Steak, green papaya salad, and mix seafood noodles. I would rent mopeds, and ride along the coast of Maui, its Beautiful and cheap. Then, bring your own scuba equipment or rent at Maui Divers, great under water scenery. Next visit, Haleakala Mountain, and catch an evening golf session. If you surf, go to Hana! Before you leave you have to try our FAMOUS GURI GURI (sherbert) at Kahului Shopping Mall, and Enjoy!
