I can't find raspberry vinegar anywhere. Would basalmic or red wine vinegar be a better substitute?

I'm making a dish called berry slaw that is mostly cabbage, dried cranberries and strawberries.

You can make your own w/ frozen raspberries and white wine or rice vinegar. Just smash 1 cup of berries and pour in 12 oz. vinegar and let sit overnight. Strain thru fine mesh sieve.

Neither Balsamic or red wine vinegars are close in flavor. My personal preference is balsamic.

I have to disagree with Jimmy the Mick: I think a little balsamic vinegar, provided it's a good one, would be compatible in just about any recipe that calls for raspberry. It'll be different, but still tasty. But since its flavor is more assertive than raspberry, I'd try one part balsamic to two parts red wine vinegar, for balance. That way your vinaigrette (or whatever you're making) will be more Gina Lollobrigida than Tony Soprano. :)

RED WINE for sure. Basalmic will totally change the dish in a BIG way.

It depends on what it's for. If it's salad dressing, I'd say the red wine is better. If it's in a sauce, the balsamic.
