Two years ago my family and I suffered an armed robbery, involving me having a gun held to my head. Not much fun, at the time the feeling I got from the criminals was that they simply wanted to steal stuff, so I didn't do anything. But what if the criminals were doped-up crazies, or total psychos? Are there any realistic self-defence techniques if someone has a gun to your head? In the movies you see people knocking the gun away and kicking the guy in the balls. Would this work? Or would the criminal be able to let a bullet off before you can do anything?

The real best thing for you to do if you are not trained to defend yourself like that is to not do anything but cooperate and maybe try to talk them out of harming you or your family.

Then again, men will feel a need to protect thier family and property so go take some classes on that and practice really hard if you feel that you must try to make an attempt and defending yourself. That way you might have a slight chance at anything.

I can tell you one thing right now, that is just in the movies. It will not happen like that. As smooth or without mistakes. That is why they are movies. You do that in real life and you don't know what you are doing, you will end up shot or someone else in your family will be too. Even if you do get trained to defend yourself, it will more than likely fail because they already have the upper hand. They have you at gun pun. All they need is the split second to pull the trigger. So you make a sudden move, and they will be on you like white on rice.

It sucks that there are certain situations that we can't do anything to defend ourselves or our families, but that is the way it is and that is why you try to talk to them calmly and plead with them. At least for the familiies sake. Now if I knew for a fact that the guy was going to try harming me or my family, I would die trying to disarm him.

The best self defense move in your situation is to do what the person with the weapon tells you to do. What you see in the movies, is in the movies for a reason. The actor knows they are not really going to get shot.

I have heard of one case where a person did defend themselves, and was successful. A man was taking out his trach to a dumpster, and a guy pulled a gun on him. The man with the gun made the mistake of touching the man's back whom he was holding at gun point. The man being robbed was either a, or a former, Navy Seal. Given that occupation, I can understand how he was able to disarm the man.

Unless you are a Navy Seal, or some other form of special forces, do what the bad guy tells you to do. You may get shot, you may not. Try something dumb, and the chances of you getting shot probably triple.

Unless you are a martial arts expert with a black belt, you are risking your own life and the lives of those with you if someone pulled a gun on you, and tou attempo some defensive tactic . No human can react fast enough to overcome the velocity of the slowest moving bullet, which is in the vicinity of around 700fps.

I have just recently picked up a study guide to obtain a hand gun and it talks about how when you are scared or jolted you immediatly tighten your muscles throughout your body, which would then make you pull the trigger. Imagine if the phone rang while you were at gun point. You'd be dead. I think that it is best not to disarm the robber. Besides TV is for entertainment purposes only.

There are too many variable not mentioned here to give you a realistic answer. There are numerous techniques designed to deal with such a situation but they are all risky. However if you are certain you are going to be shot then you have no choice but to take the risk.

Get profession training and then get an airsoft pistol, put on eye protection and try it. And try it with several different people holding the arisoft pistol.

My well known astonishing circulate, somewhat for adult males, is to slap the attacker around the face and run away screaming like a female. some issues happen: a million- It gets you removed from the situation without harm, many of the time; 2- attracts interest to the situation, a would desire to in any bullying difficulty; 3- If the attacker follows you, it makes them look extra like a wuss; 4- enables you to combat yet another day. If that doesn't artwork, or whilst they're shocked by using your antics, you will desire to actual throw a punch/kick interior the groin section which continually works.

Here's one move you can make. When the bad guy has the gun pushed up to your head, right when you think you can out run the bullet, bend over as far as you possibly can, next kiss your a*s goodbye, cuz you're not fast enough to beat a trigger finger.

There are many different varieties or studies in martial arts.

Yes, there are some methods of disarming an armed assailant but to describe those here would be difficult and an improper forum to discuss.

I strongly suggest you contact a local martial arts expert and see what they can offer you!

Best wishes.

Hand over the wallet and pray, anything else will get you killed. Heed the advise from the other respondents.

I have plenty of training and I would not run the risk. A thug and an enemy are entirely different animals. Pay the thug, kill the enemy. Simple.
