I love straighteners, but it can fry your hair. Pick a ceramic plated one because it's known for it's good quality and not burning the hell out of your hair. It also retains heat very well. Always protect your hair with a heat safe spray before you straigten. Try Neutrogena Heat Safe spray at drugstores. If you're in desperate need of a straightener everyday, try getting the japanese straight perm. I get it about every 6-9 months and it totally works. I can wash and go whenever I want and I never have to worry about the frizz. Make sure you use the japanese one though and that you go to a trusted salon. It will be pricy depending on the length of your hair, but trust me, it is worth it. You can still curl your hair with a curling iron too if you need too.

Can't live without! I upgraded to ghds over the weekend. I couldn't believe how ace they were. No drag, fast heat. I was told by my usually very critical friend my hair looked really healthy. I thought that was much more of a compliment than your hair looks nice. Chuck out your cheap straightners that are wrecking your hair and get something better! And NEVER use them on naked hair!

hair straighteners are good and bad...
They are great for convienience as it looks as good as a salon-blow dry, however they are incredibly damaging and I am seeing more and more people with split crispy ends due to over straightening. I even know people who use their straighteners more than 3 times per day!
always use a conditioning treatment at least once a week, this will nurish the hair and provide it with intense moisture lost during the week due to using the irons
use a thermal protecter spray, spray on wet hair to protect from the heat of the hairdryer and then your hair is ready and protected from the straighteners
have your hair ct every 4-6 weeks to keep in shape.
the best thing is to use the irons when going out or special occasions, hair straighteners are damaging if you do not protect the hair with a thermal protecter spray.

I know that there has been a lot of bad publicity about streightners, but as long as you have regular trimms on the ends of your hair, you will be fine. Also, the rumor that they make your hair fall out is not true because i have realy thin hair so i would really notice hair loss, and i have used streightners for years. So for me... cant live without them.

Personally I can not live without them. I don't know how I ever coped with my naturally frizzy / wavy hair before straighteners were invented! However it is important to treat your hair well if you use them as they are so hot and so can easily dry and split your hair. Try not to use them every day and use products to protect your hair form the heat - I find 'straightening addict' products are great.

good if you use them occasionally and with a good heat protecting spray but some people use them every day without the spray and then their hair starts to become damaged and it starts to fall out..i only use them occasionally and if you put your finger on the inside of a fully hot straightner..you finger'll hurt and you'll obviously take it off..imagine your hair..being slid in between two of the really hot bits..lol..newyz..inabit

because my hair is naturally curly i usualy put some moose on it and it looks gorgeous, however i heard that if you straighten your hair 3 times a week it wont do any damage to your hair. it seems like you str8en it every day? i dont know..jus a guess, but be ware because your hair will eventually become very dry and youl get lots of split ends. try to cut down because it will be worth it in the long run, your not always young and beautiful. but its up to you!. i hope that has helped good luck! :D

I use a straightener all the time. I couldn't live without mine. I got it for twenty dollars at Walgreens and I use it with Biosilk products and it makes my hair look like it's naturally as straight as it is.
I think if you don't have one, you better get one!

i think if you can manage without them and you can blowdry it straight then you shouldnt use them, ideally they are only good for strong curly hair or hair thats quite short and gets cut often. any type of heat on the hair is bad so if you have to use straighteners, i would definitely say to use a heat protector, it makes a hell of a lot of difference.

I couldn't live without my straightener!!! As long as you don't use it daily or you protect your hair with serums from the heat they're great! You have to be careful though to not fry your hair. They are a great invention! One of my friends told me that when her sister was a teenager (before straighteners) she used an iron!!! I know ouch....So i think its great that we have this tool and we don't have to do those things!
