inspired by another question here, it seems no one is even taught evolution in High School (U.S.A.)...which really explains the national ignorance.

They didn't teach evolution when I was in HS, but that was a while ago. I didn't learn it formally until college.

My school did. (North Fond du Lac, WI). We did an experiment (on natural selection) with pieces of yarn hidden in various places in the room. Those were the caterpillars, and the students were the birds. We were given 1 minute (to represent one year) to find as many as possible, then we took what was left and made trait tables with them. When applied, we could logically predict what the next generation of caterpillars will look like- by looking at the first generations survivors/contributors to the gene pool. The course was really simple and only put one week into the study, but that was enough to pique my curiosity in the subject...

Only the ones without kids who don't know what the school curriculum is, those with kids in school who do not keep track or even talk to their kids about what is being taught in school, those who have no idea but it sounds good to them since prayer is not allowed in school, and idiots. Evolution is addressed, but not to the point of there being a class strictly for it.

They do teach it, in biology class. I was also taught creationism in an anthropology class I took in high school. They don't do a very good job of it though because I have met many people (a lot in this section of Y Q&A) who really don't understand much on the subject. I took a Physical Anthropology class in college that really went into detail on the subject. It was that class that really gave me most of my knowledge on evolution and the related sciences.

Yes evolution is taught in schools, mine included. But it varies with each district. Unfortunately those that teach evolution in high schools only skim the surface of it when they should provide more detail. Evolution is a major part of Biology.

I took high school biology in 1993 and my teacher refused to teach it. He said he did not believe in evolution therefore he would not present it to his classes. I read about it through library books but did not have a class on it until I went to college. That was about the time that the truth DID set me free.

Yes. I grew up in Canada. Evolution was taught in great detail, and my biology teacher preceded the unit by saying "there are certain discussions about this that belong in a theology classroom; not in a science classroom. Please bear that in mind".

It wasn't necessary. Biblical literalism was all but non-existant in my high school.

I would thank God for the quality of my education if I happened to believe in such an entity.

I didn't take BIology, so I didn't learn about evolution per se, but we learned about how certain organisms changed into other organisms because of their enviroments and such in Earth Science.

You learned about Evolution in Biology and it was an elective so it wasn't necessary like Math for graduation.

It was at one of the high schools I attended, one of the gifted and talented ones, but the other high school I attended (Did 10th & 11th at one, 12th at another), the teacher would literally look me in the eyes and tell me to go read the Bible if I even mentioned it.

This was in Central Arkansas there, so no real surprise. However, that this happened in 1996-1997 school year was bothersome.

I was taught it in high school. I don't know where the respondents are attending high school. It's also possible they just slept through biology class. Biology was the only science that really interested me.

No evolution wasn't taught when I was in school, my son is in high school now as an honor student and hasn't taken it as of yet.
