My friend was going to audition for our school's production fo "Evita". I am also auditioning, and for the same part as she is (Evita, the title role). However, today she informed our teacher she was no longer interested in auditioning. Would it be appropriate for me to ask her why she no longer wants to audition? Or would it be rude? Thanks!

I don't see what would be rude about it, it's an honest question. More than likely she doesn't have the time to commit to the rehearsals and wanted to back out before it was too late incase she got the role.

But if she tells you it was for personal reasons, then yes - it would be rude to press for further details.

Yes, ask her in private with no one but you two around. Be mindful that she may think of herself as inadequate for the part in comparison to you...? Maybe she thinks it could bring an element of competition to the relationship that could jeapardize the friendship...? After all, there can be only one person picked for the role. Just be sensitive to her feelings, and act accordingly. I hope she has a change of heart. Good luck with your audition.

You can ask, but you might not get a response. It could be something personal like grades, family troubles, etc. I would just thank the stars that there is one less competitor for your role!

she's your friend... there's no harm in asking but be prepared for the answer... what if she dropped out so you could have the role.... on second thought... you may want to consider what your response will be to that also. maybe she thinks you're better suited for the role and that you would've gotten it anyways.

Keep you nose out of someone elses business. How would this help you get the part? Go break a leg.
