You have been to a competent physician and he is doing the right thing. It is expected after an infection for lymph nodes to be swollen for a while. Just follow-up as recommended with the ultrasound exam.
Don't be worried, the chances of this being dangerous (like cancer) is very low.
To hawkthree: jumping from an enlarged axillary lymph node (after a recent bacterial infection) to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is quite a stretch. The most likely explanation is reactive swelling of the lymph node after the infection.

A swollen node in the armpit should be biopsied immediately. A lot of doctors know nothing about non-Hodgkins lymphoma which frquently shows up as a non painful lump in a lymph node.
Call a cancer center and get moving. It's better to know.

Ultrasounds won't tell the doctor enough information; neither will a needle biopsy.

It is probably a swollen lymph node just like the Dr. said. He wants to take ultrasounds just to be on the safe side.

She went to the doc and he said it was a swollen lymph node. He told her he didnt think it was anything to worry about but he did not tell her what he thought it was.? he told her what it was you obviously are not paying attention to what you are writing and it is common for women who breast feed to have lymphnode issues

Sounds like she has some infection in that breast, mastitis, and the infection has localized in the lymph node in her arm pit. Time for that kid to drink out of a cup.

You should be worried if you care. If it is a node is most likely is cancer, the best alternative method in the U.S i biological closed circuit treatment. Better success rate than radiation and chemotherapy and easier on the patient. You might have to go out of the states to get the work done, but more and more people are doing that same thing. www.emfscience.net ask me questions more if you them there.
