I am a 26 year old male, i do not smoke or drink and i am active and healthy. I am not diabetic but just lately i wake up during the night extremely hungry and have to eat. I eat large meals during the day and the only recent difference in my lifestyle is that i cycle about 10 miles a day to work. Is this really enough to explain the hunger pains?

OK first of all, You stated you eat large meals. That is a total No No, On a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 being starving and 10 being over stuffed you want to eat at a level of 6, with 6 being a tad bit over satisfied. You also need to try and eat 5 to 6 small meals vs 3 or 4 big ones. What it sounds like is happening And I am no Doctor is that your body is working out very well and you are burning calories/ energy which =Great, But your body is also use to eating large meals. With this being said it likes to eat, Getting up and having a small glass of milk along with maybe something without sugar is OK. Even a yogurt at night is fine. Just try to keep the calories down.
When your body gets that hunger feeling it means you are burning calories and fat. If you are hungry Eat , but eat just enough to kill that craving.

Hope this helped you out.

Eating 6 small meals a day is much healthier than 3 large ones.

Hunger at night is a symptom of diabetic person. You have to check fasting blood sugar. If FBS is between 70 and 110 0r below 110 you have to change your food habit to keep hunger away.If FBS is above 110 consult doctor.

You need to eat a high protein snack before bed to help keep your blood sugar level. Everyone should eat 3 meals a day and a high protein snack mid morning, mid afternoon and before bed. Most of us including me don't do that so we tend to get spells like this.

Sounds like you are healthy, I would think it is how late you have been eating? Have you changed your eating times lately? Are you eating earlier than 2 hours before going to bed...

attempt to eat some more desirable fibre and carbohydrates to fill you up. Potato, pasta, rice, bread etc etc. And are you actual hungry or do you basically experience the urge to eat? brushing your teeth can each and every now and then give up you from wanting to eat so confirm you're brushing your teeth regulary. ingesting water also fills you up so confirm you're ingesting countless fluids. goodluck

SURE IT IS...YOU BURN MANY CALORIES BOTH WAYS, PLUS YOU ARE ACTIVE...I WOULD THINK YOU NEED AT LEAST 3000-3500 A DAY TO MAINTAIN YOU BODY WEIGHT WITH THE ACTIVITY..IF YOU EAT DINNER AT 5..TRY A LIGHT SNACK OF YOGURT OR COTTAGE CHEESE TO LAY IN YOUR STOMACH....OR, IF YOU GET UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, TRY A THICK PROTEIN SHAKE.
