My Mother just got the news yesterday. She has lung cancer. She had no symptoms. No coughing up black stuff. Nothing. This was found during a routine checkup from breast cancer 11 years ago she survived.

The coughing of "black stuff" usually is the result of a GI bleed
Lung cancer is often detected through abnormal Chest x-ray,
Abnormal CAT or PET scan. A bronchoscopy is often performed
and an abnormal pathology report is also indicitive of cancer.Common symptoms include weight loss, anorexia, and fatigue.

My husband had no symptoms. His back hurt went to hospital several times finally a tech saw something he was diagnosed March 20th Went thru radiation chemo, gamma knife procedure and took a drug called tarceva. He fought a hard fight. Sadly, my love passed June 6th. Lung cancer is very aggressive by the time they find it often it is too late it has spread everywhere. Good luck to you
