If it escalates into a nuclear war the US has enough missiles to wipe out the entire world and themselves several times over. So no one wins. We all die. This would be WW3. An all out war between nations these days would not be conventional. The Iran-Iraq war saw the exchange of multiple types of chemical and biological weapons on each population. Even a local exchange such as between India and Pakistan would bring global temps down a few degrees for the next few years which would be enough to cause massive starvation and chaos for the rest of us.

I think the threat of self-annihilation is what holds our very imbalanced civilization in place. Terrorist regimes are the wild card.

it depends on what u use to define a world war ... in my opinion ww3 has and is being fought against the countries of the third world ... when u add up total casualties overall in the past 40 or so years by military action against third world countries it probably exceeds the death tolls in the actual first two world wars ... but anyway, i think yes ... whats going on in the middle east could get out of control especially if china or the former soviet union gets inolved somehow ...

No, the opposing side can't take us. If Iran, Syria, China and Russia wanted to fight us, then yes, WW3 will have officially begun. But a bunch of insurgents is no cause for concern, they can't win unless we retreat.

There will be no more "world wars" as that form of war has been non-existant for decades. War is fought in a much different manner now, no need for endless infantry.
