this is kind of a trick question..

u must remember, it was the pharisees (most RELIGIOUS) of all people who actually put Jesus to death... and what Jesus taught was that being "Religious", following Rules and Regulations, is not the same thing as creating a relationship with God.

think of it this way... when u focus on a relationship w/ God first (if u are a person who believes in God), then naturally u will Choose to follow the rules, because you Want to, and know that u are already accepted and forgiven and loved. it is quite different when someone tries to be religious and tries to follow rules, and judges others for not doing so, but doesn't do it because he Wants to.. he does it because he thinks it will get him into heaven....

there is a difference.. it is a fine line, but i think if u trust in ur heart and continue seeking what is Good, Positive, Righteous, and Kind, then it will lead u to the Relationship, not the Laws.

btw, many christians and religious people are also confused... let us not be like the Pharisees and make the same mistake they made!

Good luck~

I dont know why I am bothering to answer this, but it is aimed at atheists, so here goes.

re·li·gion (rĭ-lĭj'ən) N.
A. belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
C. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.

You can say that Christianity is not a religion, but according to the definition of religion it is. Do you believe in God? I think you would say yes. Do you belong to an institution or do you have a personal way of life grounded in this belief? I think again you would say yes. Thus you do have a religion. Its bad enough for Christians to deny science, but now you are denying basic semantics.

That being said, I dont see my lack of relationship with god as leading to any further death than I will already go through.

Oh, give me a break.
The real question is why some people confuse believing in God with being religious. The term "religious" implies things such as spamming Yahoo boards with things making the author sound like an airhead. The best belief is not propagated in such a manner.
Athiesm does not lead to death any more than belief in God does - death is a passage into a different world with each belief.

Here's the difficulty. Atheists believe that God does not exist. Therefore, they do not consider having a relationship with God, just as you have no doubt stopped considering your relationship with Santa.

Atheists see religion as the worship of a non-existent entity. They do not believe that there is a God. God, for an atheist, does not exist.

This is a tough concept for one who believes in God to grasp, since God is the ground of a believer's being, but it really is true that atheists do not believe in God.

Atheists do not confuse anything. Atheists do not believe that there is a God, plain and simple. Learn your definitions before you want to judge others. Oh, is that not against the teachings of your God? Shame on you for defying your God.

I don't? I know the definition of religion, I know the definition of God. I don't have them confused.

Why do you confuse atheists as not understanding what religion or a relationship with god is?

We don't confuse them. We have no belief in God. This mean we don't believe in religion, by default. Without god, you cannot have religion. Understand?

I'm sorry, but saying you believe in God but aren't religious doesn't make sense to many of us. It's like saying, "I love to bet on the horses, but I don't believe in gambling." It's a cop-out, Clintonesque word-fibbing, a way to distance yourself from those god-believers who offend you, like saying, "I'm a real Christian, not like those other *religious* Christians over there." Having a "relationship" with your god is practicing a religion. If you mean that you don't think it's necessary to attend church in order to have a relationship with your god, then say so. We understand when people say, "I believe in God but I don't believe in organized religion."

As for death--we're all going to die. It doesn't matter what you believe or don't believe. Death is inevitable.

Because of all the Christians who lacked a "relationship with God" and used "relgion" to kill the atheists (historically speaking).

That's a nuanced distinction. For most people, organized religion and belief in God go hand in hand.
