Southern Baptists feel very strongly that their view of the Bible is the one and only correct view. They are very conservative and socially cohesive within their group. They usually feel a member who is not fully participating or attends a different church and observes different practices is not truly saved by the blood of Christ and/or not sanctified or brought into a holy way of living by the Holy Spirit and therefore living a truly devoted way of life. They are not very flexible in their beliefs. There are some variances of strictness within the congregations however. I have also found the majority of Southern Baptists generous, family-oriented, and faithful. One of the happiest religious experiences was in a Southern Baptist church but I did not always find them tolerant of those who were different or did not vote the way they did. They think more in absolutes meaning it is right or wrong and no gray areas.

They are Protestant. They don't believe in infant baptisms. Baptism must be a willful, voluntarily act. Southern Baptists belong to the Southern Baptist Convention - all churches believe in a certain set of basic tenets, but otherwise each church is managed and governed independently from each other by their members. Southern Baptists also have a huge missionary reach - I believe they have the most # of missionaries in the world, and they will go to places that other people won't. For example, there are many Southern Baptist missionaries living undercover in North Korea.

Many of the denominations that exist did not separate from other groups. Rather, they were born when God moved. People flocked around that movement of God, and eventually "organized" it. Unfortunately, what started as a "movement" of God became a "monument" to what he had done in the last generation, and eventually a "mausoleum" to the dead past. So God had to bring another move, which started another group.

The Southern Baptist is one of those groups, that was born not from a split but from a movement of God.

I am a Southern Baptist, and honestly I feel we should look at the fact that we are one with Christ, and not so much small differences.
