It is ok to believe whatever you want, but I assume you want it to be truth. If truth is your desire, then as you discover it, it is yours! It is absolutely ok to believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and that there is a God. All that I have studied, points in that direction also. Keep seeking, and don't mind any negative answers.

Religion shouldn't be a bad thing (not to say at times religions have engaged in bad acts). If religion is recognized for what it is, a vehicle to reach a certain point, then it is not as much the religion that is important, but the actions and ordinances one enters into. There are many people who believe the religion you are a part of (or not) is insignificant, and that no matter what path you take to get to the top of the mountain you will get there eventually. (This does however leave the possibility that there is a best path).

It also depends on what and who you believe God is. If God is a loving person, and we are His children, then it doesn't make sense to me he would create thousands of religions that teach different and conflicting things. This would make God one that doesn't mind confusing us or leading us astray, and would really make God a god of confusion. I don't believe this to be the case, and therefore think if God exists he would be clear with His people (if He continues to communicate with them, like through prayer).

In the end, only God will make the call. So, it can't hurt to believe in God and that Jesus was our Savior (and living your life in accordance with all that was taught).

religion in and of itself isn't bad, it is simply a way to explain things in the world around him, that mankind could not at the time- understand.

However the way people apply religion, is wrong. They expect religion to be an alternate answer to things that are factual (the age of the earth is not appx 4000 years) and attempt, rather than to modify the religion and its tenets in accordance with what we now know, they try to ignore proven results and thoeries or offer ludicrus explanations as to why the theory tests and proves the way it is (IE: god made it so we would get those "false" results).

There really is no reason why religion can't exist to fill in the gaps about what we don't know for people who would rather believe in an answer rather than just say "we don't know why/how this happens yet". The problem comes when people want to re-write reality in favor of religion when what we do have contradicts religious beliefs.

Actually for example why can't religious creation and evolution exist side by side until we have an alternate reason for creation?

A religion can still believe in and have a creation story, evolution is just the tool used in that story. Or the Flood story could be seen as a story related to a specific geographic area or one river not the entire world.

no religion is not bad. it is a way for people to believe in God and Jesus Christ. I don't think there is anything wrong with just believing in God and Christ as well.

Religion itself isn't bad; it's simply an organized set of beliefs and a "set" way of living them out. Unfortunately, people do bad things with religion... or because of misguided belief in it.

Does it matter whether or not you have a religion? Depends on who you ask. I personally think that God is going to judge us first and foremost by what is in our hearts and how we have lived our lives. A person can, for example, live a Christ-like life without believing in Jesus.

Anything bad people get a hold of can be used in a bad way. You do not have to be part of an organized religion to follow Jesus, but just make sure you keep in the Bible and don't make Him out to be just whats favorable to you.

Yeah, that's called christianity; it's a religion. Just the fact that you don't realize this shows how bad it can get.

Please, read, say, The God Delusion (or Letter to a Christian Nation, at least)

I believe that religion by itself is not good or bad. It is how people live their lives that makes them good or bad. Really only God can know someone' heart so it is not our place to judge.

God hates religion, He only wants people to have a personal relationship with him.

Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this; To help the fatherless and the widow in their time of need and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. (Book of James)
