My daughters ped. called me today regarding a bladder infection that my daughter had last october. She told me that she wants to have my daughters urine reckd, and to do further testing. I asked what the further testing was for, and she said to see if she will be prone to bladder infections. My daughter is 3. This was her first bladder infection. The doctor also said that this is very important to do, because she will be a woman one day, and of child bearing age and this is very important to have this "further testing" done. I was completely thrown off guard. Any input would be appreciated, and has anyone ever heard of this???

as a nurse i say it is common for women to have uti's, tends to be from wiping after toilet use.

i personally dont see how a bladder infection would result in future infertility, it affects the ureters, bladder and urinary tract. without reading up on it i wouldnt know, but i do know that pregnant woen are suscepatble to uti's, prehaps its to do with that?

as your daughters guardian you are allowed to ask the health care proffessional as many questions regarding her health as you like, get asking! nothing is done without reason.

I have never heard of such a thing, but things change all the time with what and what not to do with kids these days, I myself would not worry about the extra testing but then again I dont want to say dont worry about it when it is your child. But personally being her first bladder infection I think I would wait to see if and when she had another but something to also think about is 1 she is awful young to get a bladder infection and 2 how bad was it ? but not knowing the circumstances I dont think I would worry about just keep a check to see if it is going to be an ongoing thing

I think if the doctor suggests it, I'd do it. I've never heard of it, but medical screenings have changed a lot these days
