I am bilingual as well and i prefer to speak Spanish because I feel there are more words to express myself in that language. I see no reason why you should only speak English here. I understand that when you say America most people think of north America. But we are all Americans, south, central and northern. And in my central America we speak Spanish so i see no reason why i cant keep doing it here. Do be bothered by what others think because there is always someone who disagrees. Speak in whatever tongue is most comfortable to you!

there are other languages spoken in America ,
the Native American languages for a start and Spanish is very big ,as to should it or should it not ,that is beyond anybodies control ,it just is because these different cultures exist there,
should it be official is another kettle of fish,
in South Africa are at least 3 main languages ,in Switserland 4 ,
if so many people speak Spanish you might as well recgocnize it as a second official language ,but many narrow minded rascist people will always disagree and many of them are pulling the strings in the Government.
and who can stop you speaking your mother tongue to people who share the same language.
so what is the issue ,i dont think any exists ,you are just objecting to the people who are objecting ,but it will change nothing.

America can mean many things. America means North, South, and Latin America, but what they are trying to say is the United States. I do believe that some Americans should try to be more accepting of other cultures, since isn't the United States the great "melting pot"? Ever since I have moved to Mexico a year and a half ago, it has really changed my point of view of the United States.

I live in canada, and it's an offical bilingual country, with both English and French spoken. i myself speak a german dialict, and when standing in checkout lines in malls and such, there would be an Italian or a Frenchaphone or a Chinese. and it's neat i think.
continue speaking spanish. it's a beautiful language, and america doesn't need to be so "letsmakeeveryonethinkfeelspeakamerican." eventually they might even make USA bilingual!

There's nothing wrong with speaking in your mother tongue, I speak Hebrew all the time and totally understand where you're coming from. The problem lies if I were to start demanding that schools be taught in Hebrew and the national anthem be sung in Hebrew because they shouldn't...English is the national language, we all need to learn it. Evidently you've already done that so you've got no problems :-)

I am polyglot (I speak 5 languages fluently) and I think it's cool to speak whatever language you want. Why should you mind those who feel "bothered"?
However, be careful when you do this in your workplace. There might be a company policy banning other languages. You can lose your job!
In public, feel free to use whatever language you are most comfortable with. I do, and it's fun.

I say speak whatever language you speak. However, in many businesses, it's considered rude and even against policy because the official language of the U.S. is English and it's considered unfair and disrespectful. However, this is a controversial question that will be asked for years to come.

speak whatever you want... as long as you and the other person understand it...... im sure that when the people that were bothered by what language you spoke wouldnt like it if they were in the middle of America Latina... in a town where almost no one speaks english and someone gots to them and tell them: "hable espanol que no se encuentra en Estados Unidos"...... Some people are sooooo ignorant in my oppinion....
