What are the reasons, the cobra is sacred and is worshiped? I know Sri Lord Shiva wear them. And Sri Lord Vishnu sleeps on one. Also Sri Lord Ganesha wear one, and his brother Sri Lord Muruga's peacock stands on one. I think and item pictured wit a God is sacred; but there must be more than that. Thank you.

In Hinduiism every living thing -plant-Animal(birds even small creatures)-ocean creatures all are sacred only, becuse every living thing has "DIVINITY" in it.Ocimum sanctum-Ficus religiosa-Aegles marmalus and so many other plants are considered as sacred.--Elephant,Lion,Tiger,King Cobra(Nagaraja who has asked this question),ox,cow, dog(Bhairava)Owl,Peacock,****,Golden Eagle, Monkey, Fish, Tortoise, Spider,Horse( all mentioned in Hindu texts) are sacred only, because they have :DIVINITY" in them.If "Environment Conservators group-ECOLOGISTS"say if Flora and fauna is to be preserved and saved from "Extinction"-it is Science-rational.!!If Religioous people say all living things have DIVINITY in them and so don't annihilate them- it is "Foolishness/irrational!!!!!What a wonderful approach!!!!!!

For Hindus, everything is God. They even have Ayudha Pooja, where they make poojas for man-made machines. All the animals have the intelligence embedded within them. Each animal has a special power. God need not be present in any of his creature which is going to be destroyed to show his divinity. No living animal can think like Man. They cant even count 1 to 10. How can these creatures be more sacred than man himself? Use today's science & technology to really find out where & what God is?...

Compared to any other species of variety of snakes ,cobras are calm and will not harm anyone unless they are harmed and their existence is threatened. That is why cobra is rated as a good one .
Other wise, there is no such thing as cobra being sacred. It is all creations of illusions by our forefathers for for some selfish motives and those stories beingpassed on from generations to generations with out any logic or reason or questioning.

snakes are supposed to have mysterious powers in them including the power to control nature. Snakes would 'curse' humans if they bring them any harm, this usually results in many skin diseases within the family of the cursed one and woud take many generations to ward off the curse.I am not sure how far it is true.
