The sound issue is simply a missing driver....you can pick that up easily enough from the website of your soundcard manufacturer.
Did you format the drive when installing xp? If not you very well may have both windows still installed. Perhaps on seperate partitions, but if you're getting that boot option you're old windows is still present.

when you are installing xp on a pc you must format the partition in the hard drive to get rid of the files that are already there, this will leave you with just one copy of xp on your hard drive instead of 3 copies in your case. as for the sound it is nothing to do with the copy of xp, you need to install the sound drivers, go to the manufacturers web site and you will be able to download the drivers for your motherboard, this is how to get the sound working

make positive your CPU is 64bit if no longer you cant installation any 64bit os or software. yet in case you opt for to position in 32bit or your CPU is 64bit then installation it one after the different on your new HDD then format your previous win put in partition (or no longer then you definitely may have 2 os that both might want to properly be used). Or quite improve it yet only be sure you have sufficient room in the partition that homestead windows is put in.If 18 GB that you stated is on your win partition then you definitely are ok. i do not understand in case you could improve from Xp to 7 so in case you could't then do what i stated first.placed win7 dvd on your pc then restart and start up setup from bootup.

The no sound is because you need to install the drivers.
You also have multiple operating systems installed, you need to delete the unwanted operating system (Win XP home)...

when you are in the XP setup you will be ask where you would like to install it.
it will also give you a option to delete or create a partition. delete the partition and ten create a new one (all info will be gone)
after reinstalling it. download the drivers for your sound card of of the manufacturers website and install it. that should solve it.
