There are a few reaons this may be happening, but the most likely is diet. What goes in must come out and if what goes in is highly processed food full of chemicals then you may have a lot of incomplete digestion taking place. Incomplete digestion results in fermentation of food, which produces gases like Sulphur and Methane as well as butyrate(spelling?) acid, which is the reason baby diapers smell so bad.

A big diet change could be necessary. He should include yogurt in his diet daily. Eat high fiber in the mornings and eat high quality meats like chicken and lessen the amount of beef and hot dogs. Be sure to get a proper amount of fresh vegetables (steamed, avoid the butter) and reduce his salt intake. If he eats highly nutritious and fibrous foods he may be able to reset his digestive tract and get things back in order...it's not normal to have this problem, btw.

Also, he may have IBS. Nexium or pepcid daily may help.

Finally, if he has a proper diet there may be a food allergy. Many people are lactose intolerant (in fact, all of us are, but only some have negative effects from lactose), or perhaps he eats a lot of beans.

Another finally, something like 2/3 of people carry intestinal parasites. If he travels to third world nations or has drank unclean water he may have picked something up. They can wreak havoc on the digestive system. Drugs can help, but if you're worried about drugs he can try Black Walnut extract, goldenseal, garlic and pumpkin seeds.

Hope this helps!
