I started to get ill back around April, and slowly went downhill. I must have appeared a little weird and unsociable at times but I sort of managed to keep it together. I went way downhill around Oct-Dec and finally got a proper diagnosis. I'm recovering now.
Should I tell people how sick I was, or just move on and start being normal again? On one hand I want to explain myself, (but that's like having to say "Remember 5 months ago when I used to.....?") but on the other hand, since I "appeared" just slightly odd back then and didn't see anyone during my worst period, I don't think many people will understand how bad I got.
Explain or move on?

I would say explain it to those closest to you, who you think may have been hurt or sincerely worried about your behavior - because they may still be hurt and worried about you, so you want to reassure them that you're well now. And they'll be glad to hear that you are.

But for the casual aquaintances and co-workers, it's fine to keep it to yourself.

One more thought - next time you're dealing with an illness - of any kind - that is affecting your life to the degree it sounds like this one was --- reach out to those closest to you. That's what friends are for, to offer us love and support when we need it.

You don't own anyone an explanation. Only clods would ask you to explain yourself.

The truth of the matter is that most people could care less about someone else when they are ill. If YOU feel the need to explain to someone keep it brief with something like, "I wasn't feeling well for awhile there...", and then change the subject.

Both. People are very understanding about mental illness, so if someone asks don't hesitate to explain what happened. I wouldn't go too in depth just because for the most part, people are made uncomfortable by details like that. But don't go around telling people, just if they ask what was going on.

I think that if anyone asks how you've been or otherwise notices that perhaps you look different somehow, then you might just mention you were sick for much of last year but are not recovered. Otherwise, as long as you're feeling better, you might as well not bother mentioning it.

Tell people it was bad abdominal cramps in the inner abdominal muscles. Just say it came and went randomly and was probably caused by nerves - but that the doctor said it is all good now and will be fine as long as you exercise a bit more and eat well.

Explaining could help the healing process move faster, but I guess just move on unless people ask you about it.

Good luck on the rest of your recovery.

I would just let it go. Its not really anyones business anyways. If they ask,.. just say that you was sick and it was a horrible experience and you'd rather not talk about it. They should just leave it at that. I'm glad that your feeling better and can go back to work.

I'd offer a brief explanation to those people whom you feel deserve one, particularly those you may have slighted or hurt when you weren't yourself. Beyond that, move ahead. Best wishes in your new-found health.

If you must explain it to people (maybe family and your closest friends) just tell them what you were diagnosed with and that it took them 8 months to make the diagnosis. That will suffice.
