Granted, he was a great boxing champ. But the guy evaded the draft and was invariably a 'loudmouth'. Why is this guy getting so much adulation? Is it deserved?

He was a loud mouth, conscientious objector, who is idolized. He was the greatest boxer, promoter, show man, and a peaceful soul all wrapped up in one. He deserved everything he received except Parkinson's disease. Ali was always right about being the greatest but he was just referring to boxing. I think the rest of us realize he was a great eye opener to the world about conditions as they were in the U.S. He is a great person.

Apart from the fact that Ali was the greatest boxer of all time, he also stood up for what he believed in. he refused to fight for a country that was racist towards black people, to go and murder innocent Vietnamese and Vietcong none of which had ever made a racial remark to him....A great man...your hands cant hit what eyes cant see, float like a butterfly sting like a bee...

Ali was the greatest of all time. he is one of the few could talk the talk and walk the walk. he had one of the greatest minds in sports with a method to beat his fellow competitors. he took their strenghts and made them into their weaknesses.
he was also a man of the people he showed people that its right to stand up for what you believe in.

The draft only matters to those brainwashed with Nationalism.
Ali had the guts to stand up for what he believe. He could think for himself and called a spade a spade.
