There is no harm at all in sharing what you may believe to be the truth. The harm comes in telling people they will go to hell, insisting that those who don't think the same as you are ignorant for not seeing the "truth", and infecting the government of the land with the (whatever) religion thereby making it pretty much the law that you must ACT like a (whatever) even if those are not your beliefs or suffer the legal consequences. Personally I find all of that to be absurd.

Respect is earned not given freely to those who do not deserve it, and have no respect for others.
There's no problem with people trying to share their enlightenment. The problem comes when those religious folks tell you that you will suffer forever, are a sinner, and are completely wrong. You either agree with their delusion, accept the truth that they have, and live life in a way they find morally acceptable according to their 2000 year old book, or you are an agent of Satan. There's no middle ground. No room for compromise. No reason to respect these people who cannot respect others.
M'Lady: I think you have your facts mixed up. Atheists do not believe in any gods. Don't believe me? Look it up in the dictionary.

It really doesn't matter what one chooses to believe. If they want to believe that giant blue ostrich rules the universe, so be it.
The problem comes when theists (of any variety) attempt to impose their spiritual fantasies on others and/or expect others to make accommodations for them granted to no other group. At that point, they lay themselves open to criticism. if not scorn.
Atheists, historically, have not generally gone out of their way to confront theists as theists go out of their way to confront atheists. However, the constant attacks on our society, government, legal system, institutions, privacy and even how factual scientific information is presented calls for a response. To simply pass them off as innocuous seekers of "meaning and purpose" is to ignore their agenda and lends credibility to them and that agenda.
If they want to "share" their beliefs with others it's their problem. There is no more reason that atheists should be receptive to their 'sharing' of their "faith" than their 'sharing' of their preference in sexual positions. Unsolicited information on either is inappropriate and constitutes an assault on those who have expressed no interest.
And no, purposeful ignorance, arrogance, claims of a monopoly on "truth" and presuming to dictate the actions of others are in no way deserving of "respect and compassion." Neither are those who promote these "values."

Is it actual derogatory to learn God to a sky fairy if God is as tangible as a fairy? i might say that's calling a spade a spade. If God IS genuine i might have concept he can take it -he's God! And if it make deists extra desperate of their ideals (which i'm beneficial it does) are not we actual doing them a choose truly? our comments are actually not for the fundamentalists - they're lost souls! Our comments are for absolutely everyone who can think of! no person is above ridicule: theist or atheist. as long as our criticisms are apt we would desire to continuously not mince our words notwithstanding if i might agree that there ARE. notwithstanding if I not often see posts right here in the place atheists have used expletives. That i might say is senseless -yet poking relaxing at stupid ideals? that's ok -mandatory if certainty be told. i'm not of the opinion that ANY ideals are above ridicule. Even mine. that would desire to be risky.

First, those are not atheists. They claim to be what they don't fully understand. They're aseptic. Atheist is the one that believes in a supreme being but doesn't follow any organized religion.
Second, and unfortunately, those non believers have found fanatic views of so called religious people, and they judge the rest of us because of them. That's why they mock us so much. And it is also ignorance from both sides.
TOADSTOOL:
Agnostic is the name they give now. But the true meaning of atheist is the one I gave. People are so confused nowadays.

Most religious people IMO are undereducated and/or delusional but that is their right. Unfortunately, evangelicals have entered the political arena, and since they tend to be an unthinking people, they vote in one big, unthinking monolith. That, too, is their right. But it also makes them fair game for political attack (they are no longer minding their own business following their own little strange and irrational religion). When the evangelicals withdraw from politics and the biology classroom, I'll cease mocking them.

So atheists don't believe in God.
Christians do
So what, we all are human and l9ive on this earth together, I can feel another crusade comming on. Lets just learn to get along.
M'lady,
I think your thinking of AGNOSTIC
agnostics believe in a supreme being but don't follow organized religion
Atheists, don't believe in God or any supreme being.
wich is all fine by me, morals are what seperates the good from the bad, not religion

You have to give respect to get it. In reality, theists disrespect atheists all the time.
