Lortab is a commercial brand for 'hydrocodone'--a VERY strong pain reliever (depending on the dosage, of course).
They gave it to you to help ease the pain. It works very quickly, but it is recommended that you don't drive while taking it, since it may make you dizzy, or give you nausea.
You may have doctors prescribe this to you in the future as well, for other reasons, such as minor surgery, kidney stones, etc.

Lortab is hydrocodone with acetaminophen (tylenol)
Usually they call them Vicodin for the 5 mg tablets
or Lorcet plus or Lorcet 10. They all have the same ingredients, but different amounts of hydrocodone.
Should be effective in controlling your pain.

If you are familiar with Vicodin it is the same pain medication...just a different brand name. Again, as the others stated it in a combination of hydrocodone (Class III narcotic) and acetaminophen (anti-inflammatory analgesic...generic Tylenol).
