Everyone around me is sick, my co-workers, my roomates, and my boyfriend! I can't afford to be sick again. I am currently taking 1 multivitamin and 1 vitamin C per day (total of 560 mg of vitamin C). Should I increase the amount of vitamin C right now to help in not getting it or getting it bad (to 1060 mg)? Also, what else should I do to shield myself from it? (I get sick VERY easily)

Your body absorbs only so much vitamin C. It throws off the rest. Check with the FDA website and find out the appropriate dosage for your age, weight, etc. Taking more than that will do no good whatsoever. It may not do any actual harm, but it won't help either. Wash your hand often, get a flu shot, don't drink out of anyone else's glass or soda can.

Daily requirements and dose dependent effects

Recommended
daily or dietary allowance (RDA) stands now at 75 - 90 mg per day for adults, a higher dietary reference
intake (DRI) is again in review. Regardless, many of those who regularly supplement Vitamin C, take in
the vicinity of 250 -1,000+mg per day, and there are those who take up to, and beyond 10,000 mg daily.

Taking any more than about 200 milligrams per day is likely a waste of money anyway, according to a landmark study by Mark Levine of the NIH. Levine's group found that the body's cells can't absorb more than about 100 milligrams per day, and the concentration of vitamin C in the blood begins to level off at a dose of 200 milligrams per day. The study appeared in the April 1996 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

There is continuing debate within the scientific community over the best dose schedule (the amount and frequency of intake) of vitamin C for maintaining optimal health in humans.

Vitamin C deficiency

No bodily organ stores ascorbate as a primary function, and so the body soon depletes itself of ascorbate if fresh supplies are not consumed through the digestive system, eventually leading to the deficiency disease known as scurvy (a form of [avitaminosis]), which results in illness and death if consumption of vitamin C is not resumed in time.

Dont take more Vita-c bECAUSE,
Side-effects
Vitamin C causes diarrhea if taken in quantities beyond a certain limit, which is variable to the individual. Cathcart[8] has called this limit the Bowel Tolerance Limit and observed that it is higher in people with serious illness than those in good health. It ranges from 5 to 25 grams per day in healthy individuals to 300 grams per day in the seriously ill persons, such as those with AIDS and cancer. The diarrhea side-effect is harmless, though it can be inconvenient. The diarrhea will cease as soon as the dose is reduced.
Large doses of vitamin C may cause acid indigestion, particularly when taken on an empty stomach. This unpleasant but harmless side-effect can be avoided by taking the vitamin along with meals, or by offsetting its acidity by taking an antacid such as baking soda or calcium carbonate.

Go to the drugstore and buy "Airborne" right now! It's in a cylinder case. Ask them for it. Walgreens has it. Don't buy generic, get the brand name. It prevents airborne sicknesses. Also get "Emergen-C" packets

get some Airborne from the local pharmacy. it's a tablet that you dissolve in 8 ounces of water and drink it. i think it gives a super boost to your immune system so you won't catch anything. it doesn't taste too bad.
