My finance lives in UK and in his early 20's he was convicted of fighting (assaut) twice and spent a year in prison. This was over 10 years and he hasnt been in trouble since. Could this hinder his chances for the K-1? He also suffers from Bi-Polar but is on meds for it and is fine. Would this hinder his chances.

Thanks

Your fiance will have to be completely honest about his prior convictions when filling out the applications. He will also have to obtain police reports and court records pertaining to his crime for the Embassy interview.

There is a possibility that the K-1 would be denied because of his crimes, but there is also a good chance that the Embassy may overlook his criminal past if he was honest about the crime on his applications, also it was 10 yrs ago and he has maintained a clean record since. If the K-1 is denied, you would then have the option to file a waiver.
