i'm looking to buy a new cookie press as my old one has had it. on ebay i see lots of vintage sets. are they worth the purchase? i make cookies so regularly that this is an important purchase. is there a perfect cookie press?
i've used wilton before and it broke within the first few uses. my old cookie press is pedrini, an italian brand. i would love to hear another baker's opinion.

I think that the perfect cookie press is "Biscuits(Marcato)" made in Italy. It has two settings for cookie thickness and is not at all finicky when it comes to the dough. It is made of Aluminum. I also own a Pampered Chef cookie press and I am happy with that one also.

I have been using a vintage cookie press by Wear-ever. It is all aluminum and I have seen it on eBay. Mine was my mother's and I remember her using it at the holidays when I was a little girl. I still use it today.....and I am 50 years old. The one that I have has a trigger on the handle and not the twist handle. Check eBay and get one of these. Nothing made of plastic will last long, and the ones that they have on the market today are just a frustrating waste of time and money. I found some item numbers for you to check out -

There are others.....just type cookie gun in the search box and hit enter. Good luck

I can't help you with what cookie to buy, but I can give my opinion on which cookie press NOT to buy. I have a Pampered Chef press and it is terrible. Normally, I love Pampered Chef stuff. The press, though, just doesn't work well. The ends pop off if there is a tiny air bubble in the tube. The cookies don't come out unless you push extremely hard onto the baking sheet. The ratcheting mechanism is worthless. Luckily, I got mine for free because I would have been very angry paying for such garbage.

I purchased my cookie press from Williams Sonoma. I've had it approximately 6 years and I've never had a problem with it. The cookies come out perfect every time! Here's a link to the set I have: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/6970859/index.cfm?pkey=xsrd1mall%7C15%7C%7C%7C0%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7Ccookie&cm%5Fsrc=sch
(The one I have did not come with the decorating tips.) It's reasonably priced and you can purchase it online or in the store.
Good luck!

i have a couple of spritz makers and the best ones have pump handles...although most of the "vintage" ones are still direct press, you can find some good modern ones if you really look
i like the kuhn rikon "la patisserie" model...the plates are pretty much universal and it's definitely good for making many batches at once.

relies upon, is it a hamburger press without the "around molds" which skill is it purely a FLAT hamburger maker? if that's flat possibly, because of the fact that's going to likely be lots THINNER because of the fact the two plates will "squish" the dough flatter. attempt it and enable me know.

A metal one is perfect. Too often the plastic ones will slip the threads, and gush dough out when you don't want it to! >:-p
I got mine at W-S, but there are probably less expensive places to find them.
