No even though corning ware is heat resistant, it should never be used over an open flame. On an electric stove top you need a wire plate to protect the corning ware. You can find them in any hardware store. On a gas stove it is not recommended that you use corningware on the top. When baking with corning ware the directions say it is safe up to 500 degrees. I would not use mine on any direct heat source that it was not manufacture recommended. If you use the manufacture directions then your corning ware will last you a life time. THEY are easy to clean and work well to make any casarole. Good luck cooking.

RE:
Cooking with corning ware?
I am making a roast in a corning ware casserole dish in the oven. I am wondering if I can use that same dish on my stove top to make gravy, I have a flat top stove.

Sure can. I do it all the time. Corningware is designed to withstand 600 degrees... and only industrial ovens have that capacity. However, since the pan will already be hot, you'll just need a low to medium heat for the gravy. Know what.... think I'll run to the store and get a roast, too !!!

you can use corningware on the stove top also
you can be more confident if you turn it over at see what it says at the bottom, usually corning says at the bottom as to what medium is safe.
if you do not find info here, then easiest way would be to go to walmart,a nd look for the dish that you have, and the label will say everything.

Yup, I've done it before, no problems.
Although I do usually avoid turning it up all the way to "high" just in case. (I stick to about medium-hi)
And if ti's already hot from the oven, then definitely no worries.

Yes, you can.
Beware of corningware over time though. Eventually the pieces get tired or something and just go all to pieces. It can be really surprising when it happens.
