Host some daytime wine tasting events. There are sure to be a local wine club or a club for retirees that would be able to come out during the day (The Red Hats). Invite them out and have your main wine guy discuss the finer points of each vintage. They will likely buy some food before or after.

Food. And drink specials. And food. Appetizer specials, think like tapas. Small plates. That way the bar bill goes up, with the added bonus of more food sales. Promote that on your slowest days in whatever publications you already run ads in. Come up with a small plate menu and drink menu that go with the cuisine your restaurant serves.
You could have a beer and wing day, or tapas and sangria, or wine and antipasto. Or even soup and half sandwich with a wine pairing. You could do a "Take a Break" day that offers appetizers and a froofy drink special. Cater towards the Ladies That Lunch.
Just some ideas.

Serve certain drinks during the day. You said you work at a nice restaurant so I would suggest publication. Try making flyers and such discussing what you serve. If you already do that then I would try to make the flyers more eye-catching but not too loud with the colours. Suggest to the manager that perhaps the colour scheme of the exterior/ interior of the restaurant could be tweaked a little to make it more appealing. Looks are everything.
If you want bar patrons to come in during the day then suggest something that you would think they would enjoy and then tell them that you serve it during the day. They just might come check it out and end up liking it. If they do and they already know the service is great then they're hooked!

Depending what type of restaurant you work at, I would suggest a 2 or 3 course lunch with wine (salad/soup, entree and dessert with one or 2 different wines).
Also, you could run lunch specials, like soup/salad and bread for $7.99. You need to check other restaurants in the area and have you prices comparable or lower by at least 1-dollar. Just be sure not to spend more than you make.
Hope this helps.

drink specials are a good way...
maybe send out cupons with a discount for eating lunch at the bar...
or how about low-priced a lunch buffet for bar patrons only...

Do lunch drink specials. What I do is visit other bars on my day off and then their bartenders and wait staff come and see me on theirs!
