I did call animal control on him today. I was still undecided as of last night, because... Well basically, I have to live next to this guy for a long time. Plus he's a cop and I didn't know if I was ready to go up against that. Late last night though, my daughter told me while she was outside playing that one of the dogs paws is bleeding. The little girl that lives next door, told her dad about the dogs foot and his response was, "He'll be okay". Right then and there, I decided no matter what, I was going to call animal control in the morning. So now it's morning and I did call. I looked outside and the dog is limping around. It's leg or paw is obviously hurt. They said they would send out an officer. So we'll see what happens. Poor doggies.

Thanks again for the advice.

Well animal control came and went. The dogs are still there. At first I wasn't sure if they even went out to look at them. I finally got up the nerve to go out and ask them. They said yes, they did look at them. One of the dogs has torn off a toenail, which is why he is bleeding. They said they have adequate shelter, so they can't do anything about that. They left him a note on his door about the toenail. Also, they said there is only 2 dogs, not 4. I KNOW he had 4 dogs during the summer, because I was outside a lot more and seen them. Maybe he gave them away or God knows what else, but there is only 2 dogs now.

They kind of made me feel like I was just a bleeding heart busy body. For a split second, I was starting to regret my decision. It almost felt like I made a mountain out of a molehill. But, then I realized, just by him knowing that someone is watching him with how he treats his dogs, maybe he will take better care of them, and that makes it all worth it.

Good for you, but be ready to suffer some kind of retaliation if he finds out who called. Even if he is a cop and he will do that to animals it is hard telling what he'll do to a person. Be sure to have a camcorder or digital camera ready and report everything no matter what happens you will need a paper trail. Good luck and again good for you, people like that shouldn't even own animals.

I had read about your situation, and also the huge amount of answers that you received. So i'm glad to see things worked out so well for you. It's nice to think that sometimes the good in people can still prevail over their selfishness or their own personal agenda.

Good going! The dog probably ripped it's paw pad from it freezing to the ground all of the cold weather that poor dog. That guy should know better. They shouldn't say who reported him to him so your name should not be used. I called the animal control on my neighbors and they never asked me for my name.Again good for you

some one should bring the dog to the vet right a way, it,s can get an infection with an open wound. and it will never get better unless it gets some medicine, is so intrusting how dumd people are these days. tell the owner. the dog needs medicine from the vet.

You were definitely not a busy body. You did the right thing. Whenever anyone suspects, that an animal may be being abused, it alway's better to call and report it, for the welfare of the dog. They cant speak for themselves, and if we don't speak for them, then who will. Good going, and thanks for caring enough to do something about it!

Good for you !!!!!!!!. Thanks for helping the poor injured, helpless dog!! I remember your question from the other day and it has been too long for the dog's foot to be bleeding. I hope they at least make the goof take the dog to the vet. Better yet, I hope they make him relinquish the dog and they find him a loving home. Please let us know what happens with the dog.

Good, maybe he will learn that he just because he's a cop, he can't go around breaking the law.

You need to contact IG rescue. If they are IGs outside is real bad. They wouldn't survive. Often our volunteers can talk people into giving us their dogs - convincing them we can get them better homes and all.

I'm glad to see you had the courage to do the right thing. Many people would rather watch their neighbors mistreat their animals than to burn bridges. Kudos to you!
