This is part of the question I started earlier concerning the councils stand on barking dogs. I have been to the police department too on this issue, to no avail. And you thought you had it rough in your town!

Here in Ontario barking dogs are not a police matter (THANK GOD!!!!)
It is a by-law enforcement issue controlled by the city. They have people that only deal with municipal by law infractions (like parking, snow removal, fences).
Barking dogs should not be a police matter ANYWHERE as far as I am concerned. We have many, many other more important things that need our attention. Things that have to do with public safety.

You don't mention how big or small your department is...nor do you state the types of TYPICAL crimes they have to deal with. This makes it difficult to determine if maybe the police might be busy with more serious crimes. If you have an issue with barking dogs then YOU should file a complaint and then YOU sign a warrant for the dog owner who fails to maintain the peace with his out of control pet!

Police can't do everything and need the support of their citizens to step up and help!

It ISN'T the councel's problem. It is the police. Which they hate and you may not get the response time you want because it's a very low priority call. You don't have it rough. If so many of you are bothered by this, then call animal control. You don't give enough details about the barking situation, just your complaining about it.

If it is about barking dogs. Ask the humane society. or pound. They atleast can point you in the right direction. Lawyers are also a good source of information and some in training lawyers love to do this for free or little money. Maybe a local community school will help. Good Luck

as an officer, the police cant do anything really about the barking dogs. try calling the Animal control department for your city/county, then try calling the city council/county commisioners office to see if they have officers that strictly enforce county/city codes. We have then and they are the ones who write citations cause you have a years worth of trash on your front porch. they may be able to help as they know all of the city/county ordinances

i have a police scanner and it is on all the time, when the police where i live get a report on a barking dog, they just tell the owner, if no one is home then they just say there is nothing they can do you might could see a lawyer and see what he or she tells you. It is sad that we pay taxi es and have to deal with peoples barking dogs.

as a law enforcement officer i know i respond to crimes based on the order that the calls are received. now and again this changes if something more severe comes in than what i am already involved in. i.e. drug problems, domestic disturbances....aww hell dam near everything takes precedence over a barking dog.

Depending on the crime, lowest to highest. If it ranks high and the police will not do anything about it , then take it up with the district attorney

I suspect the police have more important things to worry about.
