Honestly you can't really "help" her be her old self again. I have been treated for depression but it took a long time to be myself again. It is a situation that is difficult to understand if you are not suffering through it. but the best advice is just be there for her.

Well...I think that we need to just be there for her. She has actual clinical depression, so it's not like we can just MAKE her happy, or sometimes, even help her to be happy. Her brain is just going to keep telling her to be sad. =( But we can make sure she knows that we support her and everything, and that we'll be there to help her through this. I think that one of the things that will really help though, is if she starts taking her medication again! All the movies we see in health always say, do NOT stop taking meds, because your conditions worsens. I kind of wish that she would maybe get some professional counseling too, but, I don't think she wants to...

Basically, we just have to support her, and give her more chances to feel happier. Like, just talk to her more and hang out on the weekends. I want her to be happy too!

help her by doing some of the things you guys used to do when she was happy. every day, tell her that she looks beautiful, and do your hair together.

Just do more things she likes with her. Let her understand this is one way to get out of the depression. Once she master the skill of using activity as distraction. She will be able to do it by herself. Happiness is a skill. You have to practise to gain it.

Make her feel comfortable with herself as much as possible but also be honest with her and if you feel she needs more help than you can give offer to take her to appts or whatnot.

Well, stop calling her "old" for starters. how about "her former, happy self"?

Look your friend in the eye and say, very loudly "SNAP OUT OF IT!!!" If that doesn't work, try booze, drugs and illicit sex.
