The minimum ice thickness is about 6 inches to walk on, If you want to ride an ATV out on the ice the minimum is 18 inches, for a car it is 3 feet or thicker.
I have fallen through on our lake before, it was thick enough but I accidentally walked over a beaver run(that is where the beavers chew the ice thin), so be extremely cautious!!!!!

Most big lakes will have postings or you will see others on it. There is also a time when it has been cold for so long that it is just general knowledge that the likes will be frozen over enough; this is when the ice fishers drive their cars onto the lakes. Be careful, no matter what you do.

I weight 210 pounds and can safely walk on 5 inches of ice, but watch out for thin spots. Always remember ice is not consistent.

Ice might desire to be a minimum of four inches thick earlier you attempt to stroll on It... So if it keeps to be under Freezing for twenty-four/7 for the subsequent week or so, -you may desire to be all mind-blowing... [ interior the period in-between- i will shop checking my Morning Newspaper- to work out in case you listened to me or not..! ;) ].

It depends on the lake's depth. Generally, it should be at least one foot thick before walking on it. Two feet thick is, for obvious reasons, better.
