There is an old Eastern Orthodox saying: "The devil enters through the choir loft."

If you want to be under their authority you've got to dance to their tune.
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
But there is one sneaky way to go about it. Tell the pastor some time that there is a "person" (don't specify who) who says they're a Christian but who is by nature very bossy. Ask the pastor if it would be ok to ask that person "if they've prayed about it" when they're being bossy.
Having laid the groundwork, wait for the music leader to make an unreasonable demand or statement, and when you know it will piss him off to the maximum, say in your most gentle voice "Have you prayed about that?".
You know he'll (she'll) made a b-line to the pastor to talk trash about you, but your pastor will recall your question and be on your side (if he's got balls of any size at all).

First, pray! If your music minister is out of line, God already knows and will deal with them. Your job as a Christian, is to pray for those who are in position over you.
Satan's job is to cause strife and division in the church. So realize that you fight against him, not against the people who are serving.
If you feel that you need some pastoral counsel, you should make an appt. with your pastor, and talk about what you feel.
Always, always pray more!!!

You have to determine if their actions are in line with the teachings of the Bible and if he's being a good example for Christ.
If not, then you might want to have a talk with your pastor about your concerns. Or even meet with the music director one on one and point out your issues with him and make him aware of the situation.

i am a conductor myself and i can tell you that conductors of music HAVE to be like dictators or the group falls to squabbling and bickering and generally not paying attention. if the music director wants a crescendo, for example, and the organ player (mrs. wilkenson, for our story) decides not to crescendo and in fact decides to go have a sandwich mid-phrase, what good would that do? mrs. wilkenson should then be fired, which is akin to a real dictator executing a dissenter. so basically, follow the leader...

There's always going to be someone who is a dictator..in church or out of..We've had plenty of those in our church..
I figure it like this..I keep my eyes on the prize..Which is heaven..
I've had to pray my way through keeping my big ole' mouth shut alot..
If it gets to be to the point it's affecting your walk with God..You should go to your pastor..

Next choir practice, bust out into a song and dance solo in the middle of the practice. If he objects, tell him you're acting under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Then bust into "Crazy!" by Britney Spears and "Digital Getdown" by N'Snyc. That should cause him to bleed from the ears and he'll learn not to mess with you ever again.

One of those 'My Way or the Heavenly Highway' people. I haven't quite figured out how to handle the situation either. Can you give some more details?

It is not dictatorship. Church people are there to help and teach. Not to be your mom or dad.
If you don't like the music, why don't you try making up your own songs for church? I'm sure they'd love to hear it.
