Impetigo is the name for a skin infection caused by a bacteria called staphylococcus aureus. This infection is more common in children, though can also affect adults. Impetigo commonly affects the area around the mouth and nose. The reason for this is that 40% of people can carry the bacteria harmlessly in their nose. The bacteria can fall out of the nose to infect the skin nearby, so the areas around the mouth and nose are the most common areas to be affected. Treating impetigo involves the following: topical treatments (antibiotics, steroids if needed and moisturisers) physical treatments (removing crusts etc) systemic treatment if necessary - treatment taken by mouth in tablet or syrup form. Remove the crust by washing carefully with warm water. Using a moisturising cream as a soap, gently rubbing the area to remove the crust is simple and effective. The reason for this is that treatments that are then put directly onto the skin will be more effective rather than being applied on top of the crust. Topical antibiotic creams can be applied to the area as a simple treatment alone in mild to moderate cases. Washing in an antiseptic is commonly advised. Topical fusidic acid has been shown to be effective in treating impetigo. More severe cases may require antibiotics taken by mouth in tablet form or syrup for children. The usual antibiotic treatment is flucloxacillin. This may be used for 5 to 7 days though the exact length of time for optimum treatment is not known. It may be that only three days is needed of a higher dose. A long course is not needed as staphylococcus aureus does not recur like a streptococcal infection. Many years ago, the treatment was to remove the crusts (scabs) and apply gentian violet topical liquid. Gentian violet belongs to the group of medicines called antifungals. Topical gentian violet is still used to treat some types of fungus infections inside the mouth (thrush) and of the skin. However it is effective for impetigo. The use of this medication turns the skin purple and this is probably why it is not often used on visible parts of the body.
Hope this helps

Do you mean impetigo ?
If so, I remember having impetigo when I was about 7.

The only treatment used was to put gentian violet on it. You dissolve gentian violet crystals in alcohol, or you may be able to buy it already in solution. You dab the solution on with cotton wool and renew it every few hours. And try to make sure your daughter doesn't touch it !

As far as I remember, it began to clear up after a couple of days. Or maybe it took longer ? But I was only 7, so my memory of the event may not be all that accurate.

do you mean impertigo ?

I remember having this when I was about 12. I had a cream prescribed by my dr that is usually the best way to get rid of it. Only thing is it was just below my hair line and the cream made my hair drop out. The otherthing to remember is don't touc it because it is very catching from towels sponges anything that comes into contact with it so be very careful you may catch it yourself. Just a warning though make sure your child doesnt get bullied for it as I was it is not an indication of anything bad. Remember when we were kids we were told that nits were caught because we were dirty well we now know that thats not true now. There maybe a herbal remedy out there just asd at the herebalists.

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and to flush the toxins out. Sometimes it take the Infertigo 4-6 weeks to respond to the antibiotics. Is she also on a topical treatment?

hi I have about an same project as you. i hate those pesky spots that pop up in basic terms about over evening. For the in basic terms right couple weeks I were using a product called Cortaid. that is an anti itch cream yet weirdly it takes the redness and bump faraway from a pimple in about a million to 2 days. in basic terms positioned it on the blemish earlier you bypass to mattress. It dosen't dry your pores and skin or reason any harm. that is totally low in value and that i imagine you should provide it a attempt. The element in it that makes it artwork is termed hydrocortisone. also i do not recommend using toothpaste, because once you've tender it makes and somewhat dry and its also burns it.

You mean impetigo. See that she does not touch her lesions, as this can spread it. Make her wash her hands frequently. If she has fever, give her an antipyretic.

You can try putting calomine lotion on the area. It will help to dry up the blisters.
