Some viruses like HIV and herpes stick their DNA into the DNA of their hosts. Once that happens, there is no cure. You can get rid of all the active virus in your body, but the infection comes back because there is a constant source in the host's DNA.

A virus cannot be cured unless there is a vaccine for it.

The cold virus cannot be cured, only treated.

HIV, Herpes, some types of HPV and many others cannot be cured, due to not having any vaccines available.

They are however being researched and developed for the near future.

Some people may have a stronger immune system and may be able to deal with the symptoms of viruses better than others.

Also some people have a more resistant immune system that protects them against infection of some viral diseases.

For example: During the dark ages, some people survived the devastating plagues that lasted for many years in Europe.

These survivors would be in contact with the infected and not get sick, while many others immediately got infected and quickly just died

There is a theory that the descendants of these survivors who are living today in the age of HIV, etc., are the people today who have been found to resist certain diseases.

It may have something to do with a gene mutation that has somehow strengthened their immune system.

Remember, this is just a theory.

All viruses are different. Some have certain DNA that is very complex and scientists have not yet been able to discover how human DNA can combat it. Onces with weaker and less complex structures like the flu virus are easier. Remember however that only a century or so ago people died with flu very easily. Only recently was the flu vaccine developed. Lots of hope yet at finding a vaccine for HIV.

Some viruses like Herpes and HIV hide away in nerves and other places. In these sites the immune system can not find them to kill them.
Other viruses stay in tissues like the blood or mucosa where the cells of the immune system can seek them out and kill them.
Therefor some viruses are found and killed and you get better and some hide away and so you have the disease for ever.
